Eddie Davis
We are
delighted to welcome Margate resident Eddie Davis (aka Eddie Roach)
to the Board of Trustees of Gilda’s Club South Jersey. Eddie is
a part of the group of volunteers recruited to fill the spots of nine
of our founding board members who fulfilled their nine year term in
March and moved on to our Advisory Board.
Eddie has
been a friend to Gilda’s Club South Jersey for many years, lending
his talent and promoting the Club on air when we asked. He
never ever made us feel like we were just another non-profit
requesting free publicity. In fact, just the opposite was
true. That’s how he made it to the A-list when we were on the
lookout for new board members.
Eddie
Davis is the first to say that the life of a morning DJ (Lite Rock
96.9 WFPG) is not quite as glamorous as it may seem. For one
thing, there is the fact that the work day begins before 6 AM.
And that’s not stumble in with a cup of coffee and wake-up during the
first half hour. Rather it is all systems go, throat clear, good
enunciation, updated weather and current events and GOOD MORNING!
His
professional life does not stop when he is off the air. If you
have visions of Eddie eating bon-bons during commercial breaks, think
again. There are many requests and press releases to turn into 15
second promos, there is the whole social networking component that
needs constant feeding, and there are off-site promotions (Lite Rock
did a live broadcast from AtlantiCare’s Cancer Survivor Day on
Saturday with Eddie as the guest MC). Eight hour day?
Five days a week?
Eddie is a
native of suburban Philadelphia and has been involved with radio
since college. He has hosted morning shows in Trenton and
Hartford before joining WFPG in 2004.
This is
exactly the kind of person we love on our Board. It is the busy
people who always seem to figure out how to balance all the pieces
and still have time to make a difference in their community.
Thank you Eddie—and because there is always a good family behind the
volunteer—thank you Beth and the girls.
