Naida Burgess

We caught you Naida Burgess-- just this past Saturday.  What’s that pose?  Looks easy.

Go ahead.  Give it a try.

Put each foot on the opposite calf or thigh.  Now sit up tall, place your hands on either side of your body, inhale, and lift-up keeping your legs parallel with the floor-- and laugh!

What?  Not so easy?  Did you just mutter “bloody impossible?”

Naida Burgess, has volunteered to help members to stretch, relax, meditate and play into (accessible) yoga poses since we opened.  Don’t let that fancy move in the photo scare you—it is meant to inspire.  The truth is this:  Naida is one of the kindest and most gentle souls on earth.   Her classes are full of warmth and the participant is usually rewarded with some little treat.  Last month it was a Quinoa health salad. Yum.  But there was also a chocolate drop with an inspirational saying in the wrapper a few months earlier.

Naida offers her blend of mediation and relaxation each month for our members—she is also ready to bring some fun movement to Super Saturdays with the Noogies and their parents (see the hoola hoop in the picture).   That’s where we caught her this past Saturday.

Between 60 and 70 percent of all our programs are offered by volunteers.  The donation of their talent is essential to our community.  And the fact that it is given freely—well, you know what that means.

Like so many people who have gravitated to Gilda’s Club South Jersey, I am so glad that Naida is a part of our fabric.
